I bought The Dark Passenger before I got on a plane and couldn't put it down. I ended up reading it in a day. I loved that the book was full of twists and turns, but that loose ends were tied up at the end, showing that the plot was well mapped out and planned.I also liked that the book could stand on its own, even though the author set the stage for an obvious sequel. I checked out the author's website, and it says a sequel is scheduled for November. I'm glad I won't have to wait years to read the next one.
This was an excellent, fast read.

The book was entertaining, but by the end I was ready for it to end. I assume there's a sequel because it didn't really have a satisfying ending, but I will not be reading it. I never got invested in the main character and stopped caring about what would happen to him.
A little too much left hanging . Even for middle schoolers and on up,too many deaths. Too dark. Doesn't anything good happen. Gwynne
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a book full of mystery and dark magic! I found it difficult to put it down, and I found it even more difficult when the book ended. For those of you who were wondering, the author does have a website with updated information on the next book! Again, highly recommended!
Feels like a classic! Well written, impeccably plotted, and expertly paced, this story had me under its spell right from the start. Perhaps the most compelling element was the main character, Edwin Medgar, who is undoubtably one of the most intensely relatable characters I've encountered in quite some time. The author's portrayal of Edwin elicits an instant empathy from the reader without resorting to such (arguably) overused tactics as a orphaned, poor, or bullied protagonist. On a side note, not to be missed is a talking book that nearly steals the show with its persnickety ramblings! It was a delightful addition to an otherwise wonderfully dark book.
The Dark Passenger is a captivating tale that, while combining elements of many beloved stories, ultimately feels wholly original and freshly imagined. The suspense never wanes as the many layers of this plot unfold, and readers will find themselves second-guessing everything right up until the very end and beyond, leaving them with an ache for book 2 ... and quite possibly a few "night-mahrs"!
Enjoyable, if slight, fantasy, the first book of a planned trilogy. It's a cross between Rowling's Harry Potter and Pullman's His Dark Materials, although it's not nearly at the level of those two wonderful series. The book starts out slow, but picks up speed at the halfway point. I didn't really connect with the 15-year-old hero Edwin, but the story does have plenty of mystery and suspense.

Edwin is such a dark hero, unusual but so endearing. Not your typical standard character.
Edwin and his mahr lead us on a story where you are unsure if he is the good guy or the bad guy! The depth of magic in this story is captivating.
Could not put this book down and cannot wait for the next book!

I thought The Dark Passenger was a great book. Edwin, the main character, was well imagined, and I also loved the cast of supporting characters. This book was fast-paced, well written, and the author did a great job keeping up the mystery and suspense.
